Canberra renters are freezing in winter and sweltering in summer because they’re being forced to live in inefficient ‘glorified tents’ that cost an arm and a leg to heat or cool.
Renters are facing unaffordable power bills, having to choose between using the air conditioner or having food on the table. Renters are living in homes so cold and damp it’s bad for their health. The extra, unnecessary energy usage, is increasing the pollution that is damaging our climate. And it’s especially bad for the elderly, people on low-incomes, or people with disabilities.
Landlords have a responsibility to provide renters with homes that can be kept at a healthy temperature at a reasonable cost. And the ACT Government needs to make it happen.
